Week 12 of Pregnancy (Trimester 1 of Preganancy)

If I lie flat on my back, and ‘walk’ my hands down my belly with a gentle pressure, I can feel a hard, rounded, ridge just above my pubic bone. This is my growing uterus!! Other than the ever-present constipation, I feel fine. I have had no morning sickness or even the extreme tiredness I remember having with Rosie.

This week marks the move from the first into the second trimester – or ‘third’ of pregnancy. If you were to have an ultrasound scan at this point, the spine, skull and some internal organs would be visible as well as the arm and leg movements that are taking place, even if you can’t feel them yet. The baby’s brain and muscles are beginning to co-ordinate so that it is kicking, curling its toes, rotating feet and wrists and clenching and unclenching fists. He or she is even making faces – pressing lips together and frowning.
