AJ felt the baby kick at the beginning of the week – he put his hand on my belly and could feel a definite ‘pushing’ movement! I also went for my third community midwife appointment this week. Because Rosie is on school holidays, I took her with me. She was so excited about coming, because she wanted to hear the baby’s heartbeat. When the time came, she just went very quiet. I wonder what she was thinking?
Christmas week! AJ’s family stopped over for Xmas Day and Boxing Day, so very busy for me. And exciting for Rosie to get all her presents and be made a fuss of – I really wanted her to enjoy it, because it will be her last Xmas as a singleton. AJ’s mother and grandmother also felt the baby moving – I get the feeling this is going to be a busy baby!
The fetus is developing buds for permanent teeth, behind those that have already formed for the milk teeth. As well as this, the lines on the skin of the fingers are now forming, so baby will soon have its own unique fingerprints. Inside the lungs tiny air sacs, or alveoli, are starting to form. The fetus is now drinking quite a quantity of amniotic fluid every day. The gut is beginning to secrete gastric juices to help absorb the fluid, which is then filtered by the kidneys before excretion back into the amniotic sac.
