Week 27 of Pregnancy (Trimester 3 of Preganancy)

This is the last week of the second trimester! A very quiet start to the week – Rosie spent a few days of half-term school holidays with my mother-in-law. AJ is busy with his own work, which leaves me with only myself to plan for and take of, what a pleasure!

All systems go towards the end of the week when we had Rosie back and some friends to stay. They came up with their two children, Anne and John, and brought Anne’s old cot with them too. It was great to see them all, but very tiring being on the go, playing at being the perfect hostess. Come Sunday I just collapsed on the sofa and stayed there all day – for the first time I felt that my body was telling me to rest. I think from now onwards I will have to change down a gear permanently. Carrying around an extra 10kgs is obviously slowing me down, not to mention the effects of hormones on my energy levels. But I also feel as though I can’t rest now, and must start to get other baby equipment together!

Anytime around the next couple of weeks, baby’s eyes will open and he will be able to respond to light. The iris is the colour of muscle – slate grey – giving most newborn babies the appearance of dark or blue eyes. The eyes will change colour within the first few months after birth, although some babies eyes turn brown within only a few hours.
