Week 28 of Pregnancy (Trimester 3 of Preganancy)

This is the first week of the third and last trimester! I am slowly starting to get things together for the baby. We can’t afford to buy everything new, so I have been scanning the eBay site for useful things – this week a new, still boxed, baby sling arrived. Including postage, it cost half of what it would to buy new from a high street shop. Anything bought second-hand should be in good condition and checked for signs of wear and tear before use – including scratches in plastic items that could harbour germs. Obviously some things should never be bought second-hand. Car seats might look structurally sound, but if they have been in use during a car accident, they might not offer adequate protection in the event of a second accident. It is not worth risking the life of your baby – buy new. Cot mattresses should be bought new for each baby too – there has been research that suggests used foam mattresses give off fumes that could be harmful to the baby.

There is still some room in the uterus for baby to move around – so he won’t have settled into a head-down position yet. He is very active, stretching, turning and flexing his limbs. A layer of fat is being laid down under the baby’s skin, in preparation for being born. Although the fetus still looks very thin, the network of veins underneath the skin is no longer so visible.
