Week 32 of Pregnancy (Trimester 3 of Preganancy)

My first ante-natal at the midwife-led Birth Centre. Fairly routine, not much different to seeing the community midwife at my GP’s surgery. But these visits are a good opportunity for me to get to know the people who may be present at my labour and delivery. I had another blood test taken to check my iron levels. Baby in breech position again.

The constipation I have been experiencing seems to be getting a bit better. I am still continuing with the medication the doctor prescribed, but am also making sure I eat a between 20-30g of fibre as well as drink 1.5-2Litres of fluid daily. There are tables providing fibre-content of common foods that help with this, and many products list the fibre content on the ingredients labels.

Baby’s proportions are now more or less what can be expected at birth, although he is still relatively thin. His lungs are almost developed, with a fluid called surfactant being produced to keep the lungs expanded and able to withstand pressure after birth. If he were born now, this lung development means he would have a good chance of survival, but would still need to be kept in an incubator for warmth as not enough fat reserves have been deposited under his skin at this stage.
