Week 9 of Pregnancy (Trimester 1 of Preganancy)

Well, now that Rosie knows, I have been unable to keep this a secret from everyone. I spoke to my sister in South Africa today, and just couldn’t resist telling her I was pregnant. She was so excited, I guess it kind of made me excited too! But really, we are supposed to be keeping quiet about the baby until we have told AJ’s mother – and I just don’t feel ready to do that just yet.

Rosie is really interested in learning about how the baby is growing. She wants to know how big it is, and when it will be able to hear her talking through my belly!

The fetus is only just beginning to develop a more mature appearance, with eyes nearly complete and the appearance of a nose. The head is still bent forward on the chest. Inside the chest, a band of muscle is developing that will later become the diaphragm. This separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. The liver is producing red blood cells to be pumped around the fetus by the tiny heart. The spine is beginning to make very small movements and the fetus is starting to kick and exercise its muscles – but these movements are still too small to be felt by the mother.
